Traditionally clay tiles have not had a huge market in Ireland. Areas such as Foxrock and Clontarf are best known for clay tile roofs. Parts of Cork have also been roofed in various clay tiles originating from England, France and Belgium. A very durable product offering an abundance of profiles and colours. Not without some issues:
Delaminating/cracking. Defective Clay tiles can sometimes ‘peel’ and crack over time, and will ultimately need to be replaced.
Poor Workmanship. Bad detailing is again a problem with clay roofs in Ireland. Clay is more dense than concrete and can be difficult to work – bad verge details (lack of clips), tile vent/rooflight flashings badly installed.
