Traditionally pitched roofing has always been the method of choice for Irish buildings in the residential sector. This makes perfect sense considering our harsh wind driven climate (water runs off a pitched roof faster). In the past (1980s/1990s) the material of choice was concrete tiles. In recent years, many roofs (especially one off houses) in Ireland have been slated with natural slates, or more frequently with fibre cement manmade slates.
